Philly Moves is an upbeat, positive hip-hop duo from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Consisting of MC/lyricist Tragic and producer/hypeman Rockwell, the two use this traditional dynamic to create music that makes listeners dance, smile and think. In less a year, they have brought their high-energy act to stages with Choclair, Del The Funkee Homosapien, DJ Skratch Bastid, Saukrates and Mac Miller. Philly Moves is taking the Ottawa scene by storm and being named one of that city's best bands of 2010 by a reader's poll in Faces Magazine.
Completely independent, Philly Moves designs, writes and produces 100% of their product in-house, which not only ensures a genuine body of work but also gives them a signature sound. This sound is the first thing that draws fans in; engaging, sample driven beats effortlessly combine with charismatic and thought provoking lyrics in a harmonious musical marriage. Undeniably influenced by pioneers of hip-hop like Gang Starr and Pete Rock & CL Smooth, they also draw inspiration from their wealth of life experience, current events and present artists like Classified and Atmosphere.
As hard working as they come, Philly Moves grind hard to get noticed. Their obvious talents are matched only by their tireless work ethic. They have a very strong online following, a host of contacts from coast-to-coast and a large, rowdy and rabidly loyal fan-base. The last year and a half has seen Philly Moves tour Canada from the Atlantic to Pacific coasts, release an EP, a full length and two mixtapes, several singles and three official music videos. In addition, they have charted across Canada on EarShot’s Official Canadian college charts and performed dozens of times in and around their home city of Ottawa.
The present and future are just as bright as the past has been for Tragic and Rockwell. With a new full-length in the works, a showcase at Canadian Music Week, a steady stream of new gigs, a new music video in pre-production and a recently signed management deal with The Sound Syndicate, the duo plan to keep this momentum for 2011. All of this adding to their growing work load, Philly Moves vow to maintain their honest, feel-good approach to hip-hop and life. To this committed pair, this isn’t just music… it is a lifestyle.
