El Mocambo Reborn!!

El Mocambo Reborn!!

El Mocambo back from the dead?? According to a Toronto Star headline “El Mocambo’s revival is getting a boost from a Toronto clubbing giant, with a slated reopening set for summer 2017”

Looks like the folks over a INK Entertainment (REBEL, Uniun, CUBE and more) have joined forces with the El Mocambo’s current owner Michael Wekerle to breath new life into this iconic venue and bring forth a new revitalized venue!

“We have been looking for a manager or management company to oversee the day-to-day operations of the El Mocambo, and we could not be more pleased to have enlisted the help of . . . INK Entertainment,” Wekerle, of CBC’s Dragons’ Den fame, was quoted in a news release announcing collaboration.

Inside the famous venue New-York based acoustic and architectural designers from Walters Storyk Design group will be working their magic saying the venue will be “a state-of-the-art live music venue, event space, and recording and production facility, offering great music, food, beverages and merchandise, as well as live streaming capabilities for shows and events”

These announcements are the first real steps in bringing back this iconic venue that has played host to amazing acts such as the Rolling Stones, the Ramones and Elvis Costello. Since shuttering in November 2014 it appears the current owner Michael Wekerle (who bought it the night it closed from Sam Grosso) has been doing lots of behind the scenes work to finally bring this staple back to the Toronto Music Scene!

INK Entertainment front man Charles Khabouth expressed that he and his team are “honoured” to bring their management expertise to the historic space.

“. . . Together with Michael (Wekerle) we will make this famed facility one of the premier live music venues in Toronto,”
